Clustering policy

In 2001, Wallonia launched a clustering policy to encourage collaboration between companies through business networks. Clusters are essential to the Walloon economic landscape, playing a crucial role in supporting SMEs in innovation, internationalisation and growth. They also facilitate international partnerships, giving SMEs access to global value chains, and are vectors for digital and green transformation.

Wallonia is currently home to eight clusters, business networks whose management costs are paid by the region. These clusters bring together companies active in specific sectors and carry out actions to strengthen their collaboration, ensure their collective promotion, create partnerships and raise their profile internationally.

In 2005, as part of the Marshall Plan, Wallonia strengthened this policy by creating competitiveness clusters. There are six of these clusters, bringing together companies, research centres, training centres and any operator active in the targeted value chain. Each of the clusters is active in one of the key sectors for Wallonia's redeployment.

In addition to financing the costs of running these clusters, we periodically launch calls for projects to support research and development initiatives led by their members.
