Restrictive measures
We are responsible for applying restrictive measures, including sanctions and embargoes adopted at the European and international level. These measures are mainly based on United Nations Security Council resolutions and relate to firearms and dual-use items.
For all other categories of sanctions, the competent authority in Belgium is the Federal Public Service for the Economy.

Sanctions against Russia
With regard to sanctions against Russia, we are responsible for the following product categories:
- Firearms and military equipment: total embargo on imports and exports.
- Goods and technologies likely to strengthen Russia militarily and technologically or contribute to the development of the defence and security sector, as listed in Annex VII Regulation 833/2014 in its updated and consolidated version.
- Goods and technologies intended for the entities referred to in Annex IV of Regulation 833/2014 in its updated and consolidated version.
- For the dual-use items listed in Annex I of Regulation 2021/821 and items listed in Annex VII of Regulation 833/2014: prohibition in principle, with a few possible exceptions.
