Since August 2024, the former commercial establishment permits have been integrated into the urban planning permit. This permit is now managed by SPW Territory and includes a commercial component for which SPW Economy provides its opinions.
In the interest of transparency, these opinions are now accessible online. They concern projects for the creation, extension or modification of retail businesses in Wallonia and focus in particular on:
- consumer protection and commercial diversity,
- the quality and sustainability of employment,
- the integration of the project into the urban environment,
- and sustainable mobility.
The aim is to ensure balanced commercial development, prevent retail wastelands and oversupply, while simplifying procedures thanks to the integrated permit.
